Yamaha has unveiled the NMAX E, an electric version of its NMAX sport scooter that the company is positioning as a 125cc-equivalent model for the European market. The scooter is planned as a 2027 model, with pricing and exact availability still to be announced.
Its new compact eAxle motor drives the rear wheel via a belt and delivers 6.7 kW of nominal power, 7.5 kW at peak and 33.3 Nm of torque. Yamaha has not published a top speed. The scooter’s A1 classification places it in the same general category as 125cc combustion scooters.
A centrally mounted 3.5 kWh lithium-ion battery is rated for up to 104 km of range on the WMTC Class 1 test cycle. The pack is fixed rather than removable, but an onboard 800W charger lets riders charge from a household outlet or an AC Type 2 public charging station. A full charge takes around 5.5 hours.
The NMAX E offers three riding modes: Sport for quicker acceleration, Touring for smoother power delivery, and Eco to reduce acceleration and top speed in order to maximize range. Regenerative braking is also included.
Equipment includes traction control, ABS, front and rear 245mm disc brakes, 13-inch wheels, a 33mm fork and dual rear shocks. A reverse mode is designed to help with low-speed maneuvering.
A five-inch TFT display connects to Yamaha’s Motor On app for turn-by-turn navigation, battery and ride information, maintenance reminders and other connected features. The scooter also has keyless ignition, USB-C charging, LED lighting and underseat storage that can fit a full-face helmet, depending on its size. Its design follows the styling of Yamaha’s MAX family, including dual headlights and distinctive side panels.
