Pennsylvania is directing $37 million in federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding to projects expected to add 515 public EV charging ports across the Philadelphia region. The awards cover Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. PennDOT estimates the projects will increase public charging availability by 27% across the region and 53% in Philadelphia.

Several awards support curbside charging for drivers who do not have a driveway. It’s Electric PA received $2.93 million for 157 on-street Level 2 ports in 13 Philadelphia neighborhoods, while Voltpost was funded to install 62 curbside ports across the four suburban counties.

The funding also covers fast-charging installations. PositivEnergy received $7.2 million for 54 DC fast-charging ports at 11 Philadelphia Parking Authority lots. Tesla received two awards of $392,000 each for eight ports at a Royal Farms in Broomall and a Wawa in Plymouth Meeting.

Pennsylvania has a five-year NEVI allocation of $171.5 million. The federal program was established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and initially focused on fast charging along designated highway corridors. States can use the funds more broadly after the Federal Highway Administration certifies that corridor charging requirements have been met. Pennsylvania received that certification on September 22, 2025, and has built 54 charging stations with NEVI funding, more than any other state, according to the supplied report.

PennDOT lists 71 awards in the southeastern round, part of an approximately $100 million statewide community charging effort. Applications for the western region close November 20, while applications for central and eastern Pennsylvania close March 12, 2027.

The department’s estimated schedule for the southeastern projects calls for environmental reviews from November 2026 through January 2027, followed by agreement execution in January and February. The ports will still need to be built and commissioned before drivers can use them.
