Kia is preparing to expand its electric vehicle range with the EV7, a midsize SUV expected to slot between the EV6 and the three-row EV9. The model’s planned production was disclosed in an internal document from Kia’s Employment Stability Committee, reported by KoreanCarBlog.
The document reportedly says production of the “mid-range electric SUV ‘EV7’” will proceed at Kia’s Gwangju factory in South Korea. It does not provide further details about the vehicle, including its specifications or launch timing.
Kia’s current EV lineup includes the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, EV9 and PV5 van. At its 2026 CEO Investor Day, the automaker said it plans to expand its electric range to 14 models by 2030. Its plans for Europe include a new C-segment electric SUV, alongside the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9, as well as three PBVs and a B-segment hatchback.
Kia has also said it is developing a new EV platform aimed at improving vehicle performance and cost competitiveness. The company has described potential gains of up to 40% in battery capacity and 9% in motor output, with fifth-generation batteries offering up to 15% higher energy density than its current technology. It has not confirmed whether or how these developments will apply to the EV7.
The EV5 is Kia’s current midsize electric SUV. The source article suggests the EV7 could be somewhat larger, but Kia has not announced its dimensions or positioning beyond its expected place in the lineup.
