Volkswagen’s ID. Polo has been named German Car of the Year 2027, beating international competition to claim the overall title. It had already won the entry-level category for models priced up to €25,000.
The ID. Polo with a 37 kWh battery starts at €24,995 and has a WLTP range of up to 334 km. Volkswagen says it can charge from 10% to 80% in about 23 minutes using DC fast charging at up to 90 kW. The Life and Style versions are also offered with the 37 kWh battery, starting at €29,195.
Volkswagen opened orders for the 52 kWh version at the end of April and added the entry-level model in July. Brand CEO Thomas Schäfer said more than 50,000 people had ordered an ID. Polo since orders began. He said the award recognizes the car’s aim of bringing electric mobility into everyday life.
The ID. Polo is the first model in what Volkswagen describes as a new generation of cars bearing established names and using its Pure Positive design language. The Volkswagen Group has now won the overall award in successive years with a compact electric vehicle; the Skoda Elroq took the title last year.
Electric cars also won across the other categories. The Kia PV5 took the compact-class award, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric won in the premium segment, and Hyundai’s IONIQ 6 N was named German Performance Car 2027.
