Maximo has reached a milestone of 300,000 construction tasks completed by its robot, as the company continues deploying the machines on solar projects. The latest version, 3.0, is being used by construction crews that can install up to 24 solar-panel modules per hour, per person, according to Maximo.
The company says that rate is nearly twice the output of traditional installation methods at comparable solar sites in Southern California. Maximo’s robots were deployed at Amazon’s Bellefield solar field, where work on the first half of the complex was completed last summer.
Maximo used NVIDIA infrastructure and simulation tools to develop and test robotic capabilities before rolling out updates at construction sites. AWS supported the development and operation of the systems, including data analytics that help the company monitor field performance and refine its technology.
The team says it plans to explore uses beyond solar installation, including other construction tasks involving moving, feeding and attaching materials, as well as site logistics and cleanup. Amazon’s Bellefield project is expected eventually to exceed one gigawatt of solar-generating capacity.
