BYD sold 305,743 battery-electric vehicles in October, its highest monthly total in 2026 and the first time the company has surpassed 300,000 EV sales in a single month. The figure was 37% higher than in October of the previous year.

The automaker reported total new energy vehicle sales of 490,168 units for the month, an 11% year-over-year increase. Battery-electric vehicles represented about 63% of its total sales, while plug-in hybrid deliveries fell 17% to 177,382 units.

BYD’s October EV sales also exceeded the estimated 262,500 electric vehicles sold in the United States during the entire third quarter, according to Kelley Blue Book estimates.

The company has now recorded three consecutive months of higher EV sales and six straight months of overall sales growth. Through October, BYD had sold 1,953,700 electric vehicles, 6% more than during the same period last year. Plug-in hybrid sales for the period declined 11% to 1,625,969 units.

Exports are becoming an increasingly important part of BYD’s expansion. The company shipped 170,194 vehicles abroad in October, contributing to more than 1.5 million electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles exported through the first ten months of the year—nearly twice last year’s figure.

BYD expects overseas shipments to reach approximately 2 million vehicles by the end of 2026 and exceed 2.5 million in 2027. The company is also preparing new and updated models featuring its Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technologies, with a focus on range, charging speed and technology.
