BYD’s upcoming Ocean-series MPV has been spotted testing in China, appearing both on a car carrier and at one of the company’s Flash charging stations. The sightings come ahead of the model’s expected debut later this year.
The vehicle is a production-oriented follow-up to the Ocean-V concept, which BYD unveiled at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April. The concept showcased a sliding center display and Camping and Movie modes, including seats that could fold flat or swivel toward one another. The Movie mode was designed around a large screen that flipped out of the dashboard.
The camouflaged test vehicle appears substantially different from the concept. Images published by Autohome show a boxy shape, a wide grille and conventional pull-style door handles. The vehicle was also seen with a large roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. A video from ThinkerCar shows it being transported on a car carrier.
Local reports put the MPV at 5,145 mm long, 1,970 mm wide and 1,805 mm tall, with a 3,045 mm wheelbase. It is expected to have a seven-seat 2+2+3 layout. BYD has not confirmed its powertrain or battery specifications, though reports expect it to use the company’s DM-i plug-in hybrid system and Blade Batteries.
The Ocean MPV is expected to sit between BYD’s existing MPVs: the Denza D9, which starts above 300,000 yuan, and the Xia, priced in the 200,000 to 300,000 yuan range. Zhang Zhou, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series, has said the company expects to launch its first MPV by the end of 2026.
