A 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV has accumulated more than 471,000 miles, offering another example of an electric vehicle covering substantial distances. Its owner plans to take the car beyond the half-million-mile milestone.

The vehicle was brought to the Out of Spec Renew YouTube channel with more than 470,000 miles on its odometer. Around 330,000 of those miles had been driven on the battery installed after a recall. The original electric motor remains in service.

The Bolt’s battery had developed serious faults and cell-voltage imbalances, so Out of Spec Renew replaced it with a stable, lower-mile battery pack from a 2017 Bolt. After installing and programming the replacement, the team got the car running and back on the road.

Out of Spec Renew paid $1,800 for the replacement battery. The team estimated that consumers would pay between $2,500 and $3,000 for a similar pack. With the repair completed, the owner is now closer to reaching 500,000 miles in the electric hatchback.
